Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) Educational Requirements

The Department of Foreign Affairs and/or Immigration Department has specified the following educational requirements that must be met by every applicant before being granted a working holiday visa:

      • You must have completed two years of undergraduate university study or a degree. Furthermore, the only acceptable tertiary qualifications to be submitted as proofs of compliance are:
        • Degree
        • Graduate certificate
        • Diploma
      • You cannot submit certificates for I to IV levels of qualification or senior secondary certificates.

For Israeli working holiday visa SC 462 applicants, they are required to submit evidence that they hold a senior secondary certificate of education, completed military service, or were exempted from it. The same goes for applicants from the USA, except they’re not asked to submit a paper about military service. But they should strictly provide a senior secondary certificate of education or something similar to the certificate.

What You Can Do with a Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

A work and holiday visa is a government-approved program that allows foreigners to travel and work in Australia. They can enter the country, gain short-term employment for the duration of their stay and explore its natural beauty. In essence, the Australian working holiday visa provides the best of both worlds. It also provides the following benefits:

    • Stay in Australia for 12 months
    • Work in Australia for up to 6 months
    • Study in Australia for up to 4 months
    • Apply for a second and third visa

Note: Each job will be paid for at the rate decided by the Australian rates and commission.

Working Holiday Maker (Subclass 417) Visas

This visa program is similar to the working holiday visa SC 462 but has its differences. This is because the latter has more strict eligibility requirements, while the former is more lenient to applicants. The exact differences can be summed up as:

            • A 462 visa requires an educational certificate, whereas a 417 visa does not
            • Unlike the 462 Visa, the 417 visa does not require proof of English language proficiency
            • You require a letter of support from your government (if necessary) for a 462 visa but 417 does not

A WHM visa Subclass 417 allows you to

            • Travel in and around Australia for 12 months as long as your visa is valid
            • Earn cash while exploring the country through full-time, part-time, or casual work
            • Learn new things through Australian courses for up to4 months
            • Extend your stay in the country up to twice

Important Notice Before Applying for a Working Holiday Maker (SC 417)

From March 2022, some eligible present and former WHM holders in Australia will be able to apply for a working holiday maker (WHM) visa with zero visa application charge (VAC). Former WHM visa holders who have transitioned to another visa (such as the 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa) will be able to apply for an onshore nil VAC WHM visa once the department finalises arrangements.
